Citizens usually immediately rebuilt, each time using more stone and adobe. Floods rushed through Silver Creek in 1894, 1896, 1899, and 1914. They washed away mine tailings, dumps, bridges, houses, and people. Mogollon New Mexico 1958. During World War I, the demand for gold and silver dropped, and many of Mogollon's mines shut down.
