12 Gravity Thickening Gravity thickening is a process which increases the concentration of solids by gravitational forces. There are basically two types of gravity thickening processes batch settling and continuous settling. Settling velocities are primarily examined in the process of batch thickening.
The Dorr traction thickener is the type most frequently used for heavy duty work with large tonnages. The machine is so called because the thickening mechanism is driven by means of a traction wheel which travels around the periphery of the tank on a rail.
Gravity thickeners are designed for most applications involving sludge thickening. Solids are thickened by gravity, then collected at the bottom of the basin and raked to a collection sump for removal. The clarified effluent exits over the weir plates and out of the basin. Kusters Water Thickeners are offered in sizes ranging from 5 to 150 in diameter.
Improvement This thickener is patent product of Xinhai, patent No. 201010521662.5. After improvement, the capacity becomes larger, overflow with low turbidity and discharge with high concentration A new efficient thickening equipment independently developed by Xinhai.
Mar 06, 20180183;32;Thickening tanks have slowmoving vertical paddles. Sludge flows into the thickening tank, and eventually, it removes excess water from the solids collecting at the bottom. A gravity thickener has a similar process to the tanks, but it has a sloped design so that solids collect at the base.
Disc thickeners Volute thickeners The advantages and disadvantages of thickener types should be considered when selecting equipment. Table 1 gives an overview of the most common mechanical thickening devices and their relative operational parameters. (See note at end of fact sheet.) Passavant Gravity Thickener offers a particularly economic solution for the mechanical thickening process. The robust, tried and tested gravity thickeners are designed for a maximum pressure of 0.58 psi on the bottom scraper blades which enables sludge thickening of up to 600 g/l (80 oz/gal), depending on the type of sludge.
Conventional Gravity Thickener Overview WesTech's complete line of high rate, heavy duty thickeners offers the most advanced designs for use in the industry. WesTech equipment is engineered and manufactured to the highest standard in quality. It offers the precision and durability required to
Flotation Thickening Flotation thickening is considered an improved process of the gravity method and basically it uses similar principle as mentioned before like the DAF system. To recap back, what it does is that compressed air is introduced to the incoming feed channel and then these are diverted to a pressure vessel in order to force air to dissolve in the water.
Gravity thickening uses the natural tendency of higherdensity solids to settle out of liquid to concentrate the solids. Gravity thickeners consist of a circular tank (usually with a conical bottom) that is fitted with collectors or scrapers at the bottom.
